Unspoken Prayers of the Heart
SATB with minimal divisi. Languages: English, Spanish, Turkish, French, Danish. 2023. Duration: 3:08.
Dedicated to Living Table United Church of Christ in Minneapolis, MN.
About
Inspired by the prayer time at Living Table United Church of Christ in Minneapolis, MN. As people are comfortable, they share prayer requests during this part of the service. The person who leads this always says at the closing that there may be joys and concerns that we might still be holding on to and that God hears our unspoken prayers. "We release these prayers to you holy one."
The beginning section is "chaotic". The notes are there and the singers get to choose words that they repeat with varying rhythms on the given note. For example: "I wish I said something different", "Why?", "La", "Hmmm", "Inshallah", "Lo siento", etc. The chosen vocables, words or phrases are repeated multiple times on the first note then when the conductor gives the next beat the words could be switched to something different or the same words could continue until the singer feels called to change their words. English and vocables are predominant though there is a section where I chose to include short phrases from other languages.
Desear - to wish (Spanish)
Sevmek - to love (Turkish)
Tenir - to hold (French)
At bede - to pray (Danish)
Text:
My heart is full of prayers
I wish I said something different
Forgive me.
I'm sorry.
Why...?
How can this happen to good people?
I pray for love and peace now
In my heart,
my heart is love
Desear.
Sevmek.
Tenir.
At bede.
To Wish
To Love.
To Hold.
To Pray.
In my heart
In our hearts.
